Day of the Dead @ SBMA

We were once again invited to create a large scale interactive piece for the Santa Barbara Museum of Art’s Day of the Dead Celebration. This event is one of our favorites as we get the chance to make work with hundreds of participants from all over the area. This year we stretched canvas over the sixty feet of construction fence in the courtyard behind SBMA where they are retrofitting the museum. We brought a dozen wooden sugar skull templates for participants to use to create sugar skulls out of colored pastels. The results were wonderful. The best part of one of these large projects is how little explanation is needed for people to dive in and make the work. The less we as facilitators have to explain the better. So thankful to work with the great Education Department at the SBMA, they are brilliant. Hope to be back next year.

Examples of the great results.
