Spectacular Subdivision

In collaboration with High Desert Test Sites and Monte Vista Project I installed an overloaded flag pole at a show in Wonder Valley. The show was curated by Jay Lizo.
I wanted to create the feeling of everyone arriving at the same time and running their individual flags up the pole to claim the space. The lunacy of course being that we are all claiming claimed spaces all the time. Being first or having a big flag means nothing to the space really, and in the end is just a bunch of fabric and color and not really much substance.
Over the years I have always been atracted to the idea of flagpoles. They exist with a marvelous potential for statement. Flagpoles are essentially statement locations. So once again here I am making a claim on already claimed ideas.
